Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association (TCWPA) announces its 2010 Three Star Battlefield tour. This year's tour will be at the Triune earthworks in Middle Tennessee on Saturday, May 1. Historian Fred Prouty will lead a hike to some of the most intact and extensive Civil War earthworks in the country.

Prouty is the program Director for the Tennessee Wars Commission and a leading authority on Tennessee Civil War fortifications. The earthworks are on privately owned land and not publicly accessible. This will be a rare opportunity to view the massive fortifications.
The tour begins at 9:30 at the Triune Community Center located at 8021 Horton Highway, between Highways 96 and 840 (approximately halfway between Franklin and Murfreesboro). Participants will park at this location for the tour and carpool to the nearby fortifications. The tour will begin with a brief orientation to the Triune Fortifications at the Community Center and will conclude about 12:30 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to wear weather appropriate and protective clothing and sturdy hiking boots, since hikers will encounter briars, cross barbed wire fences, and walk moderate to steep inclines. The tour is not recommended for children 12 or under. Participants are also encouraged to bring small knapsacks and energy snacks. Water will be provided. Ticks and insects will be hungry, so bug spray is encouraged.
Limited number of participants: 50. Tour is free but requires registration by Wednesday, April 28:
