Experiencing Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park by bicycle is easier than ever before this summer, thanks to FREE organized rides co-sponsored by the Park and Outdoor Chattanooga. Riders can bring their own bikes or reserve bikes from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bike Fleet for monthly rides at Chickamauga Battlefield and/or the Park's newest unit at Moccasin Bend. Reserve a bike by calling the Park at (423) 752-5213 or Outdoor Chattanooga at (423) 643-6888. The Bike Fleet is available courtesy of Friends of the Park and Chattanooga Bicycle Club.

CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD

Ranger-guided Saturday bicycle tours are scheduled for the Park's Chickamauga Battlefield unit on May 15, June 19, July 17, August 21, September 18 and October 16. The public is invited to bring their bicycles and join in the leisurely-paced historical rides, which takes approximately two hours. National Park Service rangers will talk about the history of the battlefield while Outdoor Chattanooga staff and volunteers provide ride leadership and support. Loaner bicycles from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet will be available for riders five feet tall and over at no charge, thanks to sponsorship from the Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. Reservations for these bicycles are required, but all you need to do is contact the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center at (706) 866-9241 to make a reservation.

Monthly Chickamauga Battlefield tours begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Ride length is approximately three to four miles on flat to moderately-hilly terrain. The rides are appropriate for adults and children ages eight and older when accompanied by an adult. All participants are required to wear helmets.

MOCCASIN BEND NATIONAL ARCHEOLOGICAL DISTRICT UNIT

As part of its Thursday evening OutVenture programming, Outdoor Chattanooga will team up with the Park's interpretive rangers to co-host rides from Coolidge Park to Moccasin Bend and back on June 10, July 8, and August 12. Rides begin at 6 PM at Outdoor Chattanooga headquarters, 200 River Street on Chattanooga's NorthShore. The route will take you on the roads of Chattanooga’s north shore to the National Park’s newest area, the Moccasin Bend Archeological District. Bring your own bike or borrow one from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bike Fleet. Helmet required for street riding. Paid parking is available in Coolidge Park and the adjacent Renaissance Park.
