Summer brings all kinds of ways to experience your National Park! Take a look at all the tours and programs on the schedule at Chickamauga & Chattanooga. Some are offered daily, and others are one of a kind. Get out there and have fun while learning the stories memorialized at Chickamauga Battlefield, Lookout Mountain Battlefield and Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. Don't forget that the stories also extend to the Park's Missionary Ridge, Orchard Knob and Signal Point units, where you can explore on your own. There's something for everyone this summer at Chickamauga & Chattanooga!

TOOLS OF THE TRADE: PREHISTORIC WEAPONS AND TOOLS AT MOCCASIN BEND

Saturday, May 22, 11AM at the Blue Blazes Trailhead on Moccasin Bend Road, Chattanooga, TN 37405

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Russell Cave National Monument team up to present this archeology program. Join a Park Ranger at Moccasin Bend National Archeological District to learn how prehistoric American Indians used materials as basic as stones to develop the complex societies that once existed on this historic peninsula, which has been continuously inhabited for 12,000 years. THURSDAY OUTVENTURES: MOCCASIN BEND BY BIKE

Thursdays, June 10, July 8 and August 12, 6:00 PM. Rides begin at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River Street, Chattanooga, TN 37405.

Interpretive rangers from Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park will co-host this ride with Outdoor Chattanooga. The route will take you on the roads of Chattanooga’s north shore to the National Park’s newest area, the Moccasin Bend Archeological District. Bring your own bike or borrow one from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bike Fleet. Helmet required for street riding. Paid parking is available in Coolidge Park and the adjacent Renaissance Park. CIVIL WAR LIVING HISTORY AT CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD

Saturday, June 12, 2010 & Sunday, June 13, 2010, 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM each day at Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742

The 37th Georgia Living History Regiment will be on hand to introduce Park visitors to life in the Civil War infantry army. The 37th Georgia was part of General William B. Bates’ Brigade of the Army of Tennessee, the principle Confederate army fighting in the Campaign for Chattanooga in the late summer and fall of 1863 when the Battle of Chickamauga and the Battles for Chattanooga changed the face of the Civil War and the face of America forever. CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD SATURDAY BICYCLE TOURS

Saturdays, June 19, July 17, August 21, September 18, October 16, 9:30 AM until 12 noon.

Rides begin at Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742. Ranger-guided bicycle tour of the beautiful and historic Chickamauga Battlefield unit of Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Ride five to six miles at a leisurely pace, while a ranger offers the history and human drama of the 1863 Battle of Chickamauga. The 16th Alabama Living History Regiment will be on hand to introduce Lookout Mountain visitors to life in the Civil War infantry army. The 16th Alabama was part of Lowrey’s Brigade, commanded by Confederate General Mark Lowrey, Army of Tennessee -- the principle Confederate army fighting in the Campaign for Chattanooga in the fall of 1863 when the Battles for Chattanooga changed the face of the Civil War and the face of America forever. The 16th Alabama Regiment, along with their comrades of General Patrick R. Cleburne’s division, successfully defended Ringgold Gap from the Union Army’s advance on Atlanta in November of 1863. $3 admission to Point Park for ages 16 and over. RANGER'S CHOICE SUMMER PROGRAMS AT CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD

Daily May 31-August 31, 2010, call (423) 752-5213, ext. 123 for times. Programs take place at Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742.

Enhance your summer visit to the Chickamauga Battlefield unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park by taking part in one or more Ranger’s Choice public programs this summer!
1. Join park rangers for talks on the unique firearms that make up the Fuller Gun Collection, discover the various uses of projectiles and match them with the cannons used during the Civil War.
2. Take in a ranger presentation entitled “How They Got Here,” discussing the movements of the Union and Confederate armies and how they met in the fields and forests at Chickamauga in 1863.
3. If you are 8-12 years old, enlist in the army as a part of our “Call to Arms” kids program.

RANGER GUIDED SUMMER TOURS AT CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD

Daily May 31-August 31, 2010, 11 AM and 2 PM (1 hour 45 minutes per tour). Tours begin at Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742.

Enhance your summer visit to the Chickamauga Battlefield unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park by taking part in a guided tour this summer! Join a National Park ranger for a car caravan to various locations on Chickamauga Battlefield. LIVING HISTORY ARTILLERY DEMONSTRATIONS AT CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD

Saturdays & Sundays, May 31-August 31, 2010: Saturdays 10 AM, noon and 2 PM; Sundays noon and 2 PM at the Living History Field adjacent to Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742

Enhance your summer visit to the Chickamauga Battlefield unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park by taking in a living history program this summer! Hear the roar and smell the smoke as a Civil War cannon is fired! You will watch a living history cannon crew as they go through the carefully choreographed process of loading and firing a reproduction 19th century artillery piece. Programs last 30-45 minutes. A SOLDIER'S LIFE: LIVING HISTORY AT CHICKAMAUGA BATTLEFIELD

Tuesdays through Fridays, May 31-August 31, 2010, 10 AM, noon and 2 PM at the Living History Field adjacent to Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, 3370 Lafayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742

Enhance your summer visit to the Chickamauga Battlefield unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park with a living history program this summer! Life wasn’t easy in 1863, especially when you had to eat and sleep outside between battles. National Park visitors can mingle and talk with living historians as they demonstrate the various aspects of daily life for a soldier during the Civil War. These programs also include firing demonstrations using reproduction rifles, just like the ones used in the Battle of Chickamauga. Programs last 30-45 minutes. Free. RANGER GUIDED TOURS AT LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN BATTLEFIELD

Daily May 31-August 31, 2010, 11 AM and 3 PM, Tours begin inside Point Park’s entrance gate, just across the street from the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center, 110 Point Park Road, Lookout Mountain, TN 37350-1041

Enhance your experience at Lookout Mountain Battlefield with a ranger-guided tour of Point Park. You and your ranger guide will stroll through Point Park, while you learn about the desperate and innovative battle maneuvers that took place on the slopes of the Mountain on a rainy, drizzly day in November of 1863: the famous Battle Above The Clouds. Tours last 45 minutes. Admission to Point Park is $3 per person for those aged 16 and older. Admission is free for those aged 15 and younger. A variety of annual passes are available for local residents and visitors. Check with the Visitor Center staff at Lookout Mountain for details. Fees collected at Point Park make possible a range of renovations and improvements to Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. Phone (for more information): (423) 821-7786.


MOCCASIN BEND OVERVIEW TOURS AT LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN BATTLEFIELD

Daily May 31-August 31, 2010, 1 PM. Tours begin inside Point Park’s entrance gate, just across the street from the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center, 110 Point Park Road, Lookout Mountain, TN 37350-1041

Enhance your experience at Lookout Mountain Battlefield by getting a bird’s eye view of Moccasin Bend, the National Park’s newest unit. This tour delves into the 12,000 years of human habitation on Moccasin Bend, from the Stone Age through the Civil War. Tours last 45 minutes. Admission to Point Park is $3 per person for those aged 16 and older. Admission is free for those aged 15 and younger. A variety of annual passes are available for local residents and visitors. Check with the Visitor Center staff at Lookout Mountain for details. TOURS AT CRAVENS RESERVATION ON LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN BATTLEFIELD

Saturdays and Sundays May 31-August 31, 2010. Tours begin every 30 minutes between the hours of 1 PM and 4:30 PM on the Cravens House porch, on Cravens Terrace about halfway up the side of Lookout Mountain. (Follow the signs posted on Scenic Highway 148 or call the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center for directions: 423-821-7786.)

Enhance your experience at Lookout Mountain Battlefield by exploring the Cravens farm. You and your ranger guide will stroll the Cravens House and its surrounding grounds as you learn about the heart of Lookout Mountain Battlefield where some of the harshest fighting took place in November 1863.
