Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is pleased to announce the waiver of entrance fees at beautiful Point Park on top of Lookout Mountain on Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6, 2010. The Park will offer special programming both days.
Join a park ranger at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for a walk through Point Park to learn about the desperate fighting that took place on the slopes of Lookout Mountain on November 24, 1863 as Union and Confederate forces struggled for control of the City of Chattanooga.
At 1:00 p.m. a ranger will accompany visitors on a walk to the brow of Lookout Mountain to talk about the Park's newest unit, Moccasin Bend National Archeological District, which lies in the spectacular viewshed of Point Park.
All tours begin inside the Point Park entrance gate, just across the street from the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center, 110 Point Park Road, Lookout Mountain, TN 37350-1041.
The June 5 and 6 fee waiver at Point Park will cover both entrance fees and commercial tour fees. Admission to Point Park is usually $3 per person for those aged 16 and older. Admission is always free for those aged 15 and younger. A variety of annual passes are available for local residents and visitors. Check with the Visitor Center staff at Lookout Mountain for details. Fees collected at Point Park make possible a range of renovations and improvements to Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park.
Chickamauga and Chattanooga joins all 392 sites in the National Park System to offer free admission on June 5 and 6.
