The third annual National Park Nite with the Lookouts is Monday, June 6, at AT&T Field in downtown Chattanooga.
Pre-game activities start at 5:30 PM. In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the inauguration of Jefferson Davis as president of the Confederacy, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend a special program at the Alabama Monument, located off Battleline Road on Chickamauga Battlefield, February 19, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. EST. Join a Park Ranger in this one hour program as he discusses the Confederacy’s first days and the continued uncertainty of the nation as the president of the Confederacy visited the battlefield in 1863.

On Sunday, February 6, 2011, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, in association with Black History Month, will be presenting “African Americans and the Civil War.” This one hour interpretive program will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park presents a range of special public programs commemorating the 147th anniversary of the Battles for Chattanooga on Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21. Several other events take place later in November (see schedule below).
Activities such as guided walks, talks, demonstrations and tours will be conducted at various locations in the Chattanooga area, including Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge and Moccasin Bend. The Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center will be open from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM each day. Admission to all Park areas except Point Park is free. Point Park gate fees are $3 per person for adults (16 and older). Children under age 15 are admitted free. Admission to the Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center at Point Park is free.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported this morning that the Hamilton County Planning Commission will consider an ordinance designed to safeguard local historic and scenic views. The Planning Commission will vote on the proposed ordinance at 1 PM on Monday, November 8 at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Chattanooga.

The Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission’s inaugural event commemorating the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War will take place Nov. 12 and 13 in Nashville. The theme of this historic milestone is “The Coming of the Civil War.” Governor Phil Bredesen will kick off the free event at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Jackson Hall beginning at 10 a.m. CST on November 12. read more (186 words)
