Summer brings all kinds of ways to experience your National Park! Take a look at all the tours and programs on the schedule at Chickamauga & Chattanooga. Some are offered daily, and others are one of a kind. Get out there and have fun while learning the stories memorialized at Chickamauga Battlefield, Lookout Mountain Battlefield and Moccasin Bend National Archeological District. Don't forget that the stories also extend to the Park's Missionary Ridge, Orchard Knob and Signal Point units, where you can explore on your own. Experiencing Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park by bicycle is easier than ever before this summer, thanks to FREE organized rides co-sponsored by the Park and Outdoor Chattanooga. Riders can bring their own bikes or reserve bikes from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bike Fleet for monthly rides at Chickamauga Battlefield and/or the Park's newest unit at Moccasin Bend. Reserve a bike by calling the Park at (423) 752-5213 or Outdoor Chattanooga at (423) 643-6888. The Bike Fleet is available courtesy of Friends of the Park and Chattanooga Bicycle Club.  read more (329 words)

   National Park Night with Lookouts returns June 7th

Blood Assurance of Chattanooga and Friends of the Park are teaming up to bring the region a classic, all-American night out, with the second annual National Park Night with the Lookouts scheduled for Monday, June 7 at AT&T Field in downtown Chattanooga. Pre-game activities start at 5:30. The Lookouts face off against the Carolina Mudcats at 7:15 PM. 100% of $4 tickets purchased in advance from Friends of the Park or one of its outlets benefits the important preservation, restoration and education work of the Friends at Chickamauga & Chattanooga.  read more (305 words)

   TCWPA offers Three Star Tour

Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association (TCWPA) announces its 2010 Three Star Battlefield tour. This year's tour will be at the Triune earthworks in Middle Tennessee on Saturday, May 1. Historian Fred Prouty will lead a hike to some of the most intact and extensive Civil War earthworks in the country.

   Fees waived during National Park Week

To encourage all Americans to visit their national parks, National Parks nationwide are waiving entrance fees during National Park Week from Saturday, April 17 through Sunday, April 25, 2010. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park joins its sister parks and will waive the entrance fee for Point Park at Lookout Mountain Battlefield for that week. The fee waiver will cover entrance and commercial tour fees during National Park Week.

   The Face of Battle: Park presents Secession Crisis symposium

In commemoration of pivotal American events that led up to the Civil War 150 years ago, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a symposium about the Secession Crisis of 1860 and how it affected the Chattanooga area as the country slid toward war. Speakers will cover a variety of topics related to the Secession Crisis in the local area and the country as a whole. The symposium will take place at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center Theater on Saturday, April 24, 2010 beginning at 8:45 a.m.

   Bridge Replacement Input Sought

The National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration announce the availability of the Environmental Assessment for the Replacement or Rehabilitation of Alexander’s and Slough Bridges at the Chickamauga Battlefield unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. The Assessment will be available on April 1, 2010 for public review, and the National Park Service considers public involvement to be an important component to a successful planning process. New in the Park Visitor Center at Chickamauga Battlefield is a 20-minute film called, “From Lookout Mountain to the Valley Below: Our National Park.” Admission is free, and showings are scheduled for 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM daily.   read more (387 words)

On Saturday, April 10, 2010, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will be one of hundreds of Civil War sites across the country to host a volunteer workday as part of the Civil War Preservation Trust’s (CWPT) Annual Park Day. The CWPT teams up with sites like ChickChatt in this nationwide effort with the goal of helping to clean and restore America’s irreplaceable Civil War battlefields.   read more (264 words)

   The Chase celebrates its 42nd running

The forty-second running of The Chickamauga Chase will be held on April 17th, 2010 at Chickamauga Battlefield in north Georgia. The race, presented by IcyHot with support from UBS Financial Services and Hutcheson Medical Center, benefits the operations of Friends of the Park.
