Three historians associated with Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will be featured speakers at the 2009 West Coast Civil War Round Table Conference in October. The 41st running of The Chickamauga Chase, Chattanooga Track Club's oldest continuously presented event, takes place on Saturday, April 18. The Chase benefits Friends of the Park and offers something for everyone, including a 15K signature race, a 5K race, a 2.5 mile scenic walk and a KiddieK.

Continuing a long tradition, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will observe the 2009 Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) Park Day on Saturday, April 4. Staff and volunteers will focus on three specific projects at the Park.
This 2008 crew enhanced a high-profile section of Chickamauga Battlefield by building a period-authentic fence on Park Day in 2008. Join a 2009 crew and make a difference! read more (187 words)

Friends of the Park honored Greg A. Vital on January 29, 2009 during an event that also showcased the Park’s 2008 achievements and its plans for 2009. The gathering took place at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center on Park grounds in north Georgia. It was co-sponsored by Friends of the Park and the Friends of Moccasin Bend. On hand were Park volunteers and the Boards of Directors of the sister Friends organizations.

From left, Park superintendent Shawn Benge, Dr. Joe Haskins, Haskins Award honoree Greg Vital and Friends president Becky Browder. Greg received a tribute that included two antique postcard views of Bragg Reservation and two artifacts found on their property by neighbors of the Park reservation on Missionary Ridge. read more (427 words)

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites visitors to attend a special interpretive talk on Friday evening, January 16, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center Theater. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend upcoming special interpretive programs presented in commemoration of the 145th Anniversary of the Battles for Chattanooga. A variety of educational programs will be offered on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, 2008.
The Battles for Chattanooga, November 23-25, 1863, marked the end of a five month campaign for control of this key rail center, the “Gateway to the Deep South.” The following year, General William T. Sherman used Chattanooga as a base of supply and communication during his Georgia campaigns.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park continues its 145th observance of the anniversary of the 1863 Campaign for Chattanooga in November. The public is invited to attend a series of interpretive and living history programs presented at Lookout Mountain Battlefield on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
