fotpShawn Benge, superintendent of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, announced yesterday that Todd Roeder has been selected as the new Chief Ranger for the Park. Roeder will assume his duties on June 22, 2008.

   Graysville and West Side Elementary Schools Continue Tradition With 'March For The Park'

fotpThe Friends of the Park applaud the efforts of two North Georgia elementary schools for their long term commitment to “March for Parks,” a program shared by national parks and schools across the country. On Thursday, May 1, 2008, students from Graysville Elementary School laced up their sneakers for the 12th straight year and completed a 3-mile walk on the Chickamauga Battlefield. On Wednesday, May 14, 2008, West Side Elementary School is scheduled to conduct their 13th consecutive March.

fotpChickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to celebrate Junior Ranger Day at the Chickamauga Battlefield on Saturday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The event is free, and will be great opportunity for young visitors to explore the rich history of this National Military Park. The goals of the Junior Ranger program: Explore, Learn, and Protect can be fully achieved through participation in this fun program.

fotpChickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park announces free monthly guided bicycle tours at its Chickamauga Battlefield unit beginning this month and continuing through October, 2008. The new programs are made possible through a partnership with Outdoor Chattanooga.

fotpChickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park Superintendent Shawn Benge invites the public to attend a special ceremony to celebrate the addition of 382 acres to the historic Lookout Mountain Battlefield. The ceremony will be held on Monday, April 21st, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Point Park on Lookout Mountain.

   40th Running of Chickamauga Chase Takes Place April 19th!

fotpFor the 40th year in a row, the Chattanooga Track Club's CHICKAMAUGA CHASE will provide runners, joggers and walkers with a venue to exercise their sport in the glorious surroundings of Chickamauga Battlefield. This year's Chase takes place on Saturday, April 19th at its traditional staging area near the iconic Wilder Brigade Monument. As it has for many years, The Chase will benefit Friends of the Park. Presenting sponsor is Chattem's Icy Hot, and supporting sponsors are UBS Financial Services and Hutcheson Medical Center.

The National Park Foundation, in partnership with Macy’s, is challenging young people to enter the 2008 Junior Ranger Essay Contest. Essay writers must answer the question, "What can you do now to turn over a new leaf for the environment and help preserve our national parks?"

The tree is the centerpiece of elaborate decorations celebrating the theme, “Holiday in the National Parks.” CCNMP's ornament depicts the Wilder Brigade Monument at the Park's Chickamauga Battlefield unit in North Georgia.

fotpThe Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park are proud to announce that Robert M. “Bobby” Davenport, Jr. is this year’s recipient of their annual service award. Davenport was honored with the 2007 Drew Haskins Award of Merit for his work as an advisor to the Park and the Friends in identifying and advocating for the preservation of historic lands adjacent to units of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park around the region.
